Vitamin E

What is it?

Vitamin E is an Antioxidant which has been used for more than 50 years in dermatology.

It protects the skin from damage from oxidative damage which shortens the life of your cells and is caused by things like:

  • cigarette smoking

  • exposure to air pollution

  • high exposure to ultraviolet rays from sunlight

How do you use it?

Your body can take vitamin e internally through your diet. Foods that contain vitamin e include:

  • Oils: soybean oil, sunflower oil, safflower oil, wheat germ oil, corn oil

  • Nuts and seeds: sunflower seeds, almonds, hazelnuts, peanut butter, peanuts

  • Fruits: kiwis, mangoes, tomatoes

  • Vegetables: spinach, broccoli

You can also apply vitamin e topically to your skin for a number of skin disorders because of its antioxidant properties. It is also used to help slow down aging of the skin due to its ability to protect your skin cells improving the quality of collagen in your skin.

It is also used to help prevent the oils in a formulation from going rancid and extends the shelf life of a product.
